Canada offers two primary types of work visas:
- Employer-specific: Employer-specific permits tie the worker to a particular employer, job, and location, often requiring an LMIA to prove no Canadian worker is available.
- Open work permits: Open work permits allow holders to work for any eligible employer without needing an LMIA or job offer, commonly issued to spouses of work or study permit holders, international graduates, and certain protected persons.
