The Minister of Home Affairs, Malusi Gigaba, recently announced new visa reforms of South Africa.
Business people from two BRICS countries, India and China, will now find it easier to travel to South Africa. They would be eligible for a 10-year multiple entry visa. Also, the visa would be processed within 5 days. A provision would be made to collect the biometrics of eligible travelers on arrival in South Africa. This new arrangement focuses on attracting more business and investment to the country.
The Minister also announced that the Govt. was finalizing visa-waiver agreements for a few countries. Cuba, UAE, Palestine, Kuwait, Ghana, and Morocco are some of these countries.
Frequent travelers to South Africa would be given 3-year multiple-entry visas, as per The Citizen. This would provide greater freedom of movement to them.
People traveling for business meetings or academic exchanges may be eligible for 10-year multiple entry visas.
The Minister also said that the Dept. was working on the South African Critical Skills list. International students in South Africa may be issued Critical Skills Visa which will allow them to live and work in the country. They may also become eligible for Permanent Residency.
Gigaba also announced that South Africa was at the advanced stages of developing a new e-visa. This e-visa would be piloted in New Zealand in April 2019.
